Syri i Kaltër i Thethit (Blue Eye of Theth) is a striking natural spring and pool located within the Albanian Alps near Theth in Shkodër County, Albania. Known for its intense blue and emerald colors, the pool has become one of the most visited natural attractions in the Theth region and a signature destination within Theth National Park.
Natural Features

The spring lies near the village of Kaprre/Ndërlysa and is formed by water flowing from the Black River. Surrounded by steep rocky slopes and dense greenery, the basin appears deep blue at its center and shifts toward emerald shades around the edges, creating the “eye” effect that gives the site its name. The pool is roughly 4–5 meters deep, though the visual impression often makes it appear much deeper.
Experience

The attraction is famous for its crystal-clear water, dramatic mountain setting, and opportunities for photography. During summer, some visitors swim in the pool, although the water remains extremely cold because it is fed directly by mountain springs and snowmelt. Nearby viewpoints, riverside scenery, and small cafés along the trail contribute to its popularity.
Why It Matters

The Blue Eye has become one of the defining landmarks of the Theth region and is often featured alongside attractions such as Grunas Waterfall and the wider Albanian Alps hiking network. Its vivid coloration, remote alpine setting, and accessibility from Theth make it one of Albania’s most recognizable natural sights.
Location Context
The spring is situated near Ndërlysa, approximately 7 km from the center of Theth village in the Shala Valley. The surrounding landscape forms part of the rugged mountain environment that has made Theth a leading destination for hiking, nature tourism, and the Peaks of the Balkans trail system.
