Shkodër History Museum is the principal local history museum of Shkodër, housed in a historic 19th-century traditional residence on Rruga Oso Kuka. It preserves and interprets the city's long cultural heritage through archaeological, ethnographic, artistic, and archival collections, making it one of the key institutions for understanding northern Albania’s history.
History and Location

The museum began in 1947 as the “Folk Museum” and was fully established in its modern form by 1949. Its home is a monument of traditional Shkodran architecture, located in the historic center near the city's Clock Tower, giving the building itself significance as part of the heritage it preserves.
Collections

The museum's exhibitions are organized around several core sections, including archaeology, ethnography, visual arts, and a research library. Visitors can explore artifacts spanning different historical periods, traditional costumes, household objects, handicrafts, and materials illustrating the cultural development of Shkodër and the wider region.
Cultural and Research Role

Beyond exhibitions, the museum functions as an important cultural center. It organizes commemorations, conferences, seminars, and publications focused on local history and heritage. The institution also maintains scholarly resources, including a library enriched by donated collections, and collaborates with educational and cultural organizations in Shkodër and elsewhere in Albania.
Museum Network and Significance

The museum serves as the central institution of a broader heritage network that includes the museum facilities at the historic Rozafa Castle. Together, these sites help document more than two millennia of urban history and reinforce Shkodër’s reputation as one of Albania’s most historically significant cities.
