Completed and officially opened in 2024, it is widely recognized as the largest mosque in the Balkans and has become one of Tirana's newest architectural landmarks.
Architecture

The mosque is designed in the Classical Ottoman tradition, featuring a large central dome surrounded by four 50-meter minarets. Beyond the main prayer hall, the complex includes cultural and community spaces, reflecting its role as both a place of worship and a public gathering space. The total prayer capacity is approximately 10,000 people, with room for around 8,000 indoors and additional worshippers in the outdoor areas.
History

Plans for a new central mosque in Tirana date back to the early 1990s, but the project experienced multiple delays before construction finally began in 2015. The mosque was funded largely through support from Turkey's Presidency of Religious Affairs (Diyanet) and officially inaugurated on 10 October 2024, marking the completion of one of Albania's largest religious construction projects since the end of the communist era.
Visiting

The mosque welcomes worshippers and, outside prayer times, many visitors interested in its architecture. As with most active mosques, modest clothing is expected, shoes are removed before entering the prayer areas, and visitors should be respectful of services and worshippers. Recent visitors frequently highlight the spacious interior, ornate blue-and-white decoration, and the striking views of the dome and minarets.
Significance

The opening of Xhamia e Namazgjasë gave Tirana a central mosque capable of accommodating the city's large congregations during major religious holidays, replacing the much smaller historic mosques as the primary venue for large-scale worship. Today it stands as both a functioning religious center and one of the capital's most recognizable contemporary landmarks.
