Skanderbeg Square

The historical and administrative center of Albania, it is the most visited attraction in Tirana.

Skanderbeg Square (Sheshi Skënderbej) is the central public plaza of Tirana and the symbolic heart of Albania’s capital. Covering roughly 40,000 square meters, it serves as the city’s main gathering place and is surrounded by many of the country’s most important cultural, historical, and civic landmarks.

What makes it special

What makes it special

The square is named after Albania’s national hero, Gjergj Kastrioti Skënderbeu, whose equestrian monument stands prominently at its center. Following a major redesign completed in 2017, the space became a fully pedestrianized plaza and later received the European Prize for Urban Public Space. The paving incorporates stone sourced from regions across Albania, symbolizing national unity.
