Sarisalltik Tekke

Sarisalltik Tekke is a Bektashi Sufi shrine and pilgrimage site located high above the town of Krujë on Sarisalltik Mountain.

It is one of Albania's most important Bektashi sacred places, valued for its religious significance, cave sanctuary, and sweeping views over Krujë and the surrounding plains.

Historical significance

Historical significance

The shrine is traditionally associated with Sari Saltik (Sarisalltiku), a revered 13th-century dervish whose life inspired numerous legends throughout the Balkans. The site has long served as a destination for pilgrims and is regarded as one of the earliest and most significant Bektashi locations in Albania. During Albania's communist era, the original tekke was destroyed in 1967 along with many religious monuments, but it was rebuilt after the restoration of religious freedom in the early 1990s.

What to see

What to see

The sanctuary combines natural and religious features in a dramatic mountaintop setting. Visitors encounter a small tekke, a cave containing revered tombs, prayer areas illuminated by candles, and a statue of Sari Saltik overlooking the cliffs. The mountain location also provides some of the finest panoramic viewpoints in the Krujë region, making the destination attractive to both pilgrims and sightseers.

Religious and cultural importance

The shrine remains an active place of worship for the Bektashi Order, with annual pilgrimages and ceremonies drawing believers from across Albania and beyond. Beyond its religious role, it represents an important part of Albania's cultural heritage, illustrating the country's long tradition of religious coexistence and spiritual pilgrimage.
