Xhamia e Beqarëve (Bachelors' Mosque) is a historic Ottoman-era mosque in the Mangalem quarter of Berat, Albania. Built in the early 19th century and completed around 1828, it is recognized as one of the city's most important cultural monuments and a distinctive landmark within Berat's historic urban landscape.
Historical Background

The mosque was constructed to serve guilds of unmarried craftsmen and market guards, which is the origin of its name. It was formerly known as the Sylejman Pasha Mosque and later became protected as a Cultural Monument of Albania in 1961, reflecting its architectural and historical significance.
Architecture

Built on a sloping site in the lower Mangalem neighborhood, the structure has two levels, arcades, and a notably short minaret that distinguishes it from many other Ottoman mosques. Its design was adapted to Berat's steep terrain, creating a compact but visually striking silhouette along the historic streetscape.
Artistic Features

The mosque is especially renowned for its interior and exterior mural paintings dating from 1827–1828. These decorative works, featuring Islamic motifs and geometric designs, are considered among the building's most valuable artistic elements and contribute greatly to its reputation within Albania's cultural heritage.
Cultural Importance
As part of Berat's historic fabric, the mosque represents the city's Ottoman heritage and the traditions of its artisan communities. It remains a symbol of Berat's historical identity and is frequently highlighted among the notable monuments of the Mangalem district, one of the most recognizable areas of the UNESCO-listed historic center.
