It is one of the country's most significant waterways, shaping the fertile Myzeqe Plain and providing a distinctive natural landscape that combines river scenery, wetlands, and a nearby coastal environment.

The Seman is formed by the confluence of the Devoll River and Osum River. While the river itself is about 85 km long, its full river system measures roughly 281 km when the Devoll headwaters are included, making it Albania's second-longest river system after the Drin. Near Fier, it is joined by the Gjanica before emptying into the Adriatic Sea.
