Located at 12 Floresha Myteveli Street, Korça, Iljaz Mirahori Mosque is one of Albania's oldest surviving Ottoman-era mosques and a defining historic landmark of Korçë. Built in the late 15th century by Iljaz Bej Mirahori, it is both an active place of worship and a protected Cultural Monument that reflects the city's origins.
Historical significance

The mosque was completed around 1495–1496 under the patronage of Iljaz Bej Mirahori, an Ottoman military commander closely associated with the founding and early urban development of Korçë. It originally stood at the heart of a larger complex that included charitable and civic buildings such as a bathhouse, school, inn, bakery, and public kitchen, helping transform the settlement into an important Ottoman town.
Architecture

The building is an excellent example of early Ottoman architecture in Albania. Its design centers on a square prayer hall covered by a single large dome, fronted by a three-domed portico. The exterior masonry combines carefully laid stone and brick in decorative patterns, while the interior historically featured painted decoration and frescoes, portions of which have been restored over time. The original minaret was destroyed during an earthquake in the 1960s and later reconstructed.
Preservation and visiting
During Albania's communist period, the mosque lost its religious function and was used for other purposes before returning to active worship after the early 1990s. Restoration projects have helped preserve the structure, and today it remains one of Korçë's most visited historic monuments, situated near the city's Old Bazaar and adjacent to the reconstructed Clock Tower.
Visitor information
The mosque is represented as the local attraction Xhamia E Iljaz Mirahorit. Visitors typically spend time appreciating its historic architecture and peaceful courtyard. As it remains an active mosque, modest dress and respectful behavior are appropriate, particularly during prayer times.
