Hotova Fir National Park

Protected area with old forests and rich biodiversity.

Parku Kombëtar i Bredhit të Hotovës (Fir of Hotovë–Dangëlli National Park) is a vast protected landscape in southern Albania near Përmet, known for its extensive fir forests, mountain scenery, deep canyons, and rich biodiversity. It is among the country's largest protected areas and preserves one of the most important Mediterranean fir ecosystems, making it a major destination for hiking, nature tourism, and wildlife observation.

Landscape and Natural Features

The park covers more than 34,000 hectares of mountainous terrain stretching between the Vjosa Valley and the highlands of Dangëlli. Its landscape combines dense conifer forests, limestone ridges, valleys, rivers, caves, and dramatic gorges, creating a diverse environment that changes noticeably with elevation and season.

The park takes its name from the Hotova fir, a relic forest considered especially important in Albania and the wider Mediterranean region. Forest habitats support mammals such as brown bears, wolves, wild boar, roe deer, foxes, and otters, while birds including golden eagles, eagle owls, falcons, and vultures can be found throughout the area.
