Parku Kombëtar Divjakë-Karavasta is one of Albania's largest protected natural areas, stretching along the Adriatic coast in western Albania. Known for its vast wetlands, coastal forests, and the internationally important Karavasta Lagoon, the park is a leading destination for birdwatching, ecotourism, and nature conservation.
Natural landscape

The park covers more than 22,000 hectares and includes Karavasta Lagoon, coastal pine forests, sand dunes, salt marshes, reed beds, floodplains, and beaches. This mosaic of habitats supports exceptional biodiversity and has earned international recognition as a Ramsar Wetland of International Importance.
Wildlife

Birdlife is the park's defining feature. Hundreds of bird species use the wetlands during migration, winter, or breeding seasons, and the park is especially famous as Albania's only breeding site for the Dalmatian pelican (Pelecanus crispus), one of Europe's largest and most threatened waterbirds. Mammals, reptiles, amphibians, and diverse plant communities also contribute to the park's ecological significance.
Visitor experience

Visitors can enjoy birdwatching, walking and cycling through the pine forests, climbing observation towers overlooking the lagoon, taking guided boat excursions, and exploring the sandy Adriatic coastline. The nearby town of Divjakë also offers local seafood and serves as the main gateway to the park.
Conservation importance

The park plays a vital role in protecting Albania's coastal ecosystems and serves as an important stopover for migratory birds traveling along the Adriatic flyway. Its habitats support fisheries, scientific research, and environmental education while remaining a focus of ongoing conservation efforts to balance tourism, development, and habitat protection.
