Dardhë was established after the death of Skanderbeg by Orthodox Albanian families seeking refuge in the mountains during the Ottoman period. The village later became associated with education, emigration, and the Albanian national movement, with many residents contributing to Albanian communities in the United States and elsewhere. Today, its cobbled streets, stone homes, and Orthodox traditions remain central to its identity.
