Tushemisht sits only a few kilometers east of Pogradec and close to the border with North Macedonia. The village is fed by abundant freshwater springs that form canals and ponds between its stone houses before flowing into Lake Ohrid. Nearby Drilon National Park is a popular green space with spring-fed waters, walking paths, and abundant birdlife.

Although small, Tushemisht has an outsized place in Albanian popular culture. It became famous as the principal filming location for the classic Albanian comedy Zonja nga qyteti ("The Lady from the City"), and a statue of the film's main character stands in the village center. Administratively, the village became part of the Municipality of Pogradec during Albania's 2015 local government reform.
