The Muzeu Oriental Bratko is a distinctive art museum in Korçë dedicated primarily to Asian and Oriental art. Opened in 2003, it houses a rare collection assembled by Albanian-American photographer and collector Dhimitër Mborja, making it one of Albania’s most unusual cultural attractions and a unique bridge between Albanian and Asian cultural heritage.
Origins and Founder

The museum was created to fulfill the vision of Dhimitër Mborja (1903–1990), a Korçë-born artist, photographer, and collector who spent much of his life in the United States and Asia. During and after World War II, he worked as a photographer and spent many years in Japan, where he developed a deep interest in Asian art and culture. He ultimately bequeathed his collection to his hometown, requesting that the museum be named after his mother, Viktoria Bratko.
Collection Highlights

The museum displays roughly 430–450 objects representing numerous Asian cultures. Exhibits include:
Japanese paintings and traditional women's garments
A Chinese altar
Chinese textiles and belts
Indonesian swords
European medals
Historical photographs taken by Mborja
Decorative and ceremonial objects from across Asia
The collection reflects influences from Japan, China, Korea, Indonesia, Thailand, and other Eastern cultures gathered during Mborja's travels.
Architecture and Atmosphere

The museum building itself was designed specifically for the collection and combines architectural influences from American and Japanese traditions while fitting into the urban character of Korçë. Its relatively small scale gives visitors an intimate experience focused on craftsmanship, photography, and cross-cultural exchange.
Cultural Importance

In a country where museums typically focus on archaeology, medieval art, or national history, the Bratko Museum stands out for its international perspective. Recent restoration and modernization efforts have enhanced the exhibition spaces, reinforcing its role as an important cultural destination in Korçë and a symbol of connections between Albania and Asia.
