Carefully restored in recent years, it has become both a lively gathering place for locals and one of the city's most recognizable cultural attractions while retaining its traditional architectural character.
History

The bazaar traces its origins to the Ottoman period, when it served as Korçë's principal commercial center for merchants and craftsmen. Much of today's appearance reflects reconstruction after a major fire in 1879, while extensive restoration in the 21st century helped revive the district as a cultural and tourism hub.
Architecture and atmosphere

The district is distinguished by cobblestone streets, two-story stone and brick buildings, and a network of narrow lanes lined with traditional storefronts. The protected architectural ensemble includes dozens of historic blocks and around 150 shops, with several historic caravan inns (hans) that once accommodated traveling merchants.
What to experience

Visitors typically come to browse artisan workshops, handmade crafts, souvenirs, cafés, and restaurants serving regional Albanian cuisine. The area is especially vibrant in the evening, when outdoor terraces fill with residents and visitors, and throughout the year it hosts cultural events and festivals that showcase Korçë's traditions.
Cultural significance

The Old Bazaar is recognized as a protected cultural monument and reflects Korçë's long history as a crossroads of trade and cultures. Its streets preserve evidence of the city's diverse commercial past, where Albanian, Greek, Aromanian, Turkish, Roma, and other merchant communities once lived and worked side by side.
