The spring flows year-round from rocky limestone formations, producing water that remains notably cold even during the hottest months. The surrounding landscape includes native vegetation and sits near the Vjosa River, creating a refreshing environment that combines hydrological, geological, and recreational value. The site was officially designated a Natural Monument in 2020.

Visitor experience

Visitor experience

Visitors typically stop to taste the fresh spring water, relax beneath the shade of the surrounding trees, and enjoy views of the valley. Because it lies directly along the main SH4 highway between Tepelenë and Gjirokastër, it is a convenient break for road trips through southern Albania. Nearby restaurants, cafés, and accommodations make it a common stop for both domestic and international travelers.

Cultural and economic importance

Cultural and economic importance

The spring is closely associated with the well-known Tepelena mineral water brand, whose bottling facility uses water sourced from the area. Local tradition also connects the spring with Ali Pasha of Ioannina, who is said to have discovered or popularized the site during the Ottoman period, although the spring itself is a natural feature that predates recorded history.
