Lugina e Drinit të Zi is a river valley in northeastern Albania centered on the course of the Black Drin (Drini i Zi) through Dibër County. It is one of the country's most important natural landscapes, known for its dramatic gorges, fertile agricultural lands, and mountain scenery framed by the Korab range and surrounding highlands.
Geography and Landscape

The valley follows the Black Drin River, which originates from Lake Ohrid and flows through North Macedonia before entering Albania. In the Dibër region, the river has carved deep valleys and canyons, including the notable Skavica Gorge, creating some of the most striking scenery in eastern Albania. The broader Black Drin valley extends roughly north–south between mountainous ranges and contains alternating wide basins and narrow gorges.
Natural Significance

The valley is surrounded by high mountains, including the Korab massif, home to Albania's highest peak. Forests, river ecosystems, and varied elevations support diverse wildlife and vegetation. The area has long been important for agriculture due to its fertile soils, with orchards, grain cultivation, and livestock farming playing a major role in the local economy.
Location and Nearby Areas

The mapped feature known specifically as “Lugina e Drinit të Zi” lies in Dibër County near the localities of Laçes and Fushë-Çidhnë, at an elevation of about 388 meters. It forms part of the larger Black Drin valley system that connects Peshkopi, the Dibër basin, and areas farther north toward Kukës.
Why It Matters

The valley combines geographic, ecological, and cultural importance. It serves as a major natural corridor in eastern Albania, shapes the identity of the Dibër region, and offers a blend of rugged mountain scenery, river canyons, traditional rural landscapes, and outdoor recreation opportunities.
