Liqeni i Gramës is a high-altitude glacial lake in the Korab mountain range of northeastern Albania, within Dibër County. It is known as the largest and deepest lake in the Korab massif and sits amid rugged alpine scenery near Mount Korab, Albania’s highest mountain.
Location and Landscape

Located at approximately 1,750 meters (5,740 feet) above sea level, the lake occupies a glacial basin surrounded by steep, rocky slopes. The dramatic backdrop includes the nearby peak of Gramë Mountain (Mali i Gramës), which rises to about 2,345 meters. The combination of alpine terrain, limestone mountains, and remote wilderness gives the area a distinctly high-mountain character.
Physical Characteristics

The lake covers roughly 5 hectares (0.05 km²) and measures about 450 meters long by 280 meters wide. It is fed primarily by rainfall and snowmelt from the surrounding peaks. Water levels are typically highest in late spring, when melting snow from the Korab Mountains replenishes the basin.
Natural Environment

Liqeni i Gramës lies within the protected area of the Korab-Koritnik Nature Park, one of Albania’s most important mountain ecosystems. The park contains glacial lakes, alpine meadows, forests, and diverse wildlife, making the lake a notable destination for hikers, nature photographers, and outdoor enthusiasts.
Why It Stands Out
Among Albania’s many mountain lakes, Liqeni i Gramës is distinguished by its combination of size, elevation, and setting beneath some of the country’s highest peaks. It serves as one of the signature natural landmarks of the Korab Mountains and an important feature of the protected Korab–Koritnik landscape.
